1. What are HIT Top Clean mud mats?

HIT Top Clean mud mats are semi-rigid, heavy-duty ground mats made from recycled plastic. They are designed to provide a stable, non-slip surface in muddy or high-traffic horse areas.

2. What size and weight are the mats and pallets?

Each mat measures approximately 810 × 1140 × 45 mm and weighs around 24.5 kg.

Pallet size: Up to 30 mats per pallet.

3. What are they used for?

These mats are ideal for areas that suffer from mud and poor footing, including:

Gateways
Feeding areas
Trails
Track systems
Loafing areas around paddocks and yards

4. Are the mats suitable for horse hooves?

Yes. They are designed specifically for equine use, providing a grippy surface for both shod and unshod horses. Users often report improved traction even in wet conditions.

5. Do the mats need a base or sub-base?

The mats can be laid directly on soil or installed over a prepared sub-base depending on ground conditions.

If vehicles will be driving over the mats, installing them on a prepared sub-base is recommended.

6. Do they prevent mud and improve drainage?

Yes. The mats help stabilise mud-prone ground and encourage drainage, creating a cleaner and safer surface for both horses and humans.

7. How easy are the mats to install?

The semi-rigid design allows for simple DIY installation with minimal preparation. Lay them on reasonably flat or lightly prepared ground and butt the edges together.

8. Can the mats be used on slopes or curves?

Yes. The mats can be installed on slight gradients and curved paths, moulding to natural ground undulations. On steeper or more challenging terrain, some users choose to top them with sand.

9. Do the mats become slippery when wet?

No. The surface is designed to be non-slip and customers often report good traction even in wet conditions without sand topping.

10. Can I top the mats with sand or another material?

Yes. Adding washed sand over the mats is common and can help with hoof grip, cleaning, and manure removal.

11. How do I clean and maintain the mats?

The mats can be cleaned manually or with machinery using a brush or scraper. If sand is used on top, it may require occasional topping up depending on traffic.

12. How are they delivered?

All orders are dispatched from our Auckland distribution facility and shipped securely on pallets.

Truck delivery to your property requires your own unloading equipment.

Delivery to a nearby depot for collection can be arranged, please contact us prior to check out.

13. Can these mats be moved once installed?

Yes. The mats are portable and can be relocated if your ground-use needs change.
